It is advised that should sleep in the parents’ room; under their supervision for at least six months. Your baby cot should be kept within your reach for easy access in case you want to breastfeed.

Baby Cot Buying Guide

As a parent finding the right bed to buy for your new born baby might be a challenging. You might not have much but it is certain you want your baby to have the best and be comfortable.
It’s good to know there are options to suite your budget,  the Moses basket and the crib is for new born babies to 1 year and half ( a year and 6 months) old babies but a cot bed take a baby of about five (5) years of age.
Pros of Baby Moses Basket
Moses basket is portable, easy to move from place to place while your baby is asleep. It has been observe that babies tend to sleep better in the Moses basket. When your baby must have outgrown the Moses basket, it can also be used to exhibit toys.
Cons of Baby Moses Basket
The basket is made of palm, it is likely to disengage, split or eventually become contaminated when kept in the store for later use.
Cot bed: Whatever choice you have made, ensure you get a standard yet secure regular water resistant mattress for your baby’s safety and comfort avoid bulky bed and do not place baby anywhere close to the window to avoid accidental suffocation,
You may choose to go for a cot or cot bed if you so desire in as much as it is safe; it is of a better value for your money because it is convertible to cot bed which can take your baby up to 4years of age and its durability is an added advantage because of its durability.
The swinging Crib: A swinging crib should have a mattress for the baby’s comfort, it can be used substituted for Moses basket to lay a newly born, it could also be rocked tenderly to enable an infant get back to sleep with ease. Ensure your baby is laid on his back.

Cribs are smaller than cots, made of wood and packed flat at the point of purchase.
Pros: it is of a better value in that it can be used up to six months and rocking motion helps your baby sleep well.
Cons: It doesn’t come with a matt, more expensive yet not portable like a carry cot.

ALTERNATIVES TO BABY CRIBS

Bassinet: A bassinet is an alternative crib; it comes in an egged shape with multi colors of choice and could be moved on a wheel from one place to another,
Bedside Crib: An expectant parent can make possible selection of the Bedside crib, in that it will give them the opportunity of having their baby close to them; some are designed to be placed right beside the parents’ bed.
Pros: Bedside Crib
The bedside cots is a plus because it is most  suitable for mothers who gave birth by Caesarean operation I that it allows them to reach out for their babies when they cry in hunger to be breastfed.
Cons of Bedside Crib
They are not so portable and on the high side.
Cots Bumper: Bumpers are shields like a pad, it beautifully fits into your nursery designed to avert babies accidentally bumping their heads on the side and their limbs or leg stocking through the bars. They are best eluded because there is the possibility of risk for babies that have started crawling.
Cots Bumper helps your nursery appear very cute, but if your baby is about a year old, avoid using duvets or pillows because if it is clustered, your baby may suffocate with it.
To avoid your baby feeling hot, discomfort and finding his way out of the cot becomes his next option because of its easy access it is advised that you use light weight blankets or sheets.
I would not recommend it to any parent because it retains heat but if you must use it, to keep you baby cot cozy use a baby sleeping bag - consider getting a suitable sleeping bag that suites the weather e.g rainy season, dry season and hot weather.
