Changing diapers scare most parents; even the caregivers find it unpleasant. As for new parents, each time they change a diaper seems like an endless cycle. You need to be more careful when changing diaper for a newborn baby (boy or girl) with umbilical cord. When changing diaper for a baby with umbilical cord, ensure not to cover the umbilical cord stump.

Special Notes: Changing Diaper for a Baby Boy

Changing diaper for a newborn baby boy can be challenging, but tricky at the same time.
If your baby boys diaper is soiled, pull down the front half of the dirty diaper and cover the penis with a clean cloth, a disposable pad or diaper because boys have the tendency to pee during diaper change, immediately their soiled diaper.

If your baby is a girl, wipe from front to back and clean baby girls’ front with a damp baby wipe or wet cloth to avoid putting her at risk of urinary tract infections.




How to Change a Soiled (Pooped) Diaper

  • If your baby's dirty diaper is soiled with poo, just lay a cloth, towel, or disposable pad under the baby instead of a clean diaper. 
  • Next, gently lift his/ her ankle to one side and then use the front half of the diaper to wipe off the poop. 
  • Also clean the baby’s back, bottom and between his/ her thighs.

How Often Should You Change a Newborn Baby’s Diaper?

  • The general rule says a baby shouldn't be in a diaper longer than 2 to 4 hours depending on the age of the baby.  
  • Newborn babies and infants wet more frequently than toddlers, so changing them every 2 hours is advised. 
  • Changing your baby diapers frequently to avoid diaper rash and ensure to change a pooped baby diaper as soon as possible as you notice.

Changing a Diaper is Easier than You Thought

Babies and toddlers need a change of diaper often to avoid discomfort and diaper rash. It doesn’t matter the type of diaper you are using on your baby – whether it is a disposable diaper or cloth diaper, the methods for changing a dirty diaper are the same.
